I am joining a popular on-line trend that suggests that we select one word which will underpin and drive everything we do for the New Year….mine is FOCUS; what”s yours? It’s a useful exercise since your word is powerful and can help you keep your thoughts and choices aligned for the year ahead. Here’s how I use the my word, FOCUS, to help me and my clients.

I know it is the beginning of the new year and the energy is high and there are a million different things that we all want to do. The following approach will help you to stay centred and on point. From my own personal experience and that of my clients, if you follow these steps, the results are amazing:

  1. Decide on your 3 top goals for the year and the WHY behind them. Ask “why” 5 times for each goal to ensure they connect with your big passion and purpose or else they will likely not be achieved. Align any actions you take with these goals to ensure you stay on track.
  2.  Determine any limiting beliefs, decisions and/or toxic emotions that may have prevented you in the past from achieving those or similar goals and are still lurking in the wings, ready to take your energy away from your desired results. Make a list of them to bring them to your conscious awareness. Only when you know what they are does it give you the power to change them.
  3.  Develop personal strategies you can implement to overcome these (or come and see me and I will help you eliminate them and break-through your limitations! – I do individual coaching, group workshops and NLP coach training – see the list below 😉. 4.  Keep your FOCUS on your goals. Focus means, Follow One Course Until Successful! Often we chop and change and become confused and distracted by all the “bright, shiny baubles” that are offered to us including well meaning (and sometimes helpful) motivational videos, seminars, books etc., so we end up changing direction before we have given the selected goal or course of action a chance. Or, instead of adapting our course of action according to on-the-ground dynamics, we instantly become discouraged and decide to throw in the towel and speak negatively to ourselves to reaffirm our weaknesses and shortcomings. These distract, us taking away our time and attention when we could be focusing on our decided path and listening to our own truths. We start second-guessing ourselves and our fixity of purpose is lost. To counter this, I highly recommend you pay attention to your thoughts, feelings and actions and keep them focused on where you want to go: learn how to meditate, keep your centre, live mindfully and connect with your Higher Self.

Have a fabulous year – 2020, year of plenty! (you decide what you want ‘plenty’ of! – SMILE)
