The long hot summer has arrived and with it more heat and stress for many people, maybe even you! (Yes, I know the magic of the World Cup is on, but in a couple of weeks it will be over and your life will resume the same humdrum or frantic pace, trust me; as a friend of mine says, ‘back to reality’!!)

I know what it is like to feel demotivated, overwhelmed and be literally ‘dragging your tail’ – I’ve certainly been there and done that! J Through the process of digging myself out of a hole I had built, I learnt a few things:

1)    Merely thinking positive thoughts and using affirmations DOES NOT WORK! While this practice is a good one, just doing this alone will not guarantee that you will be able to get permanently out of the doldrums and live your best life!

2)    Reading and researching opens your mind to new ideas, but is NOT ENOUGH TO ENABLE YOU TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES! If it was, there would be no need for workshops, coaches and mentors!

3)    Friends can be ‘enabling’ – that is to say, since we tend to draw to ourselves persons with similar issues, there is a tendency to drown ourselves in the misery of the moment and commiserate with each other. The tendency to restate and repeat the issues in our lives serves only to strengthen our old neural networks that keep us bound to the problem

4)    Motivational talks are inspiring but, on their own, do not lead to lasting change! Real transformation is an inside-outside job which is often triggered by a personal crisis. There are a lot of coaches and trainers who are great speakers, guides and mentors but do not have the tools to help you create your own personal and permanent transformation…

5)    Personal Empowerment is expensive in time, energy and dollars – but it is a heck of a lot  cheaper than remaining where you are and living with dissatisfaction, emotional and mental stress, health challenges and the misery of a repeatedly unfulfilled life! How much is living the life you want actually worth? Are you more committed to complaining than taking the actions required to change your life?

The best knowledge and tools that I was fortunate to discover came packaged in Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP for short. With over 40 years of history and research, the world is now finally waking up to the truth of neuroplasticity and the fact that we can actually reprogram ourselves for the results we want in our lives – abundance, health, positive and loving relationships, and living on purpose!
